De keuze van de professional
Met 3x 1/3'' 800k progressive scan CCD's levert de XL2 omroepkwaliteit en vormt daarmee het vlaggenschip van het Canon programma. Deze camcorder bepaalt de norm in veelzijdige, lichtgewicht professionele digitale video. Nieuw in deze klasse is dat de XL2 volledig handmatige bediening biedt van een breed scala aan variabelen, zodat alle fijn-aanpassingen mogelijk zijn die de meest veeleisende professionele videograaf zich kan wensen.
Zowel 16:9 (960 x 576 effectieve pixels) als 4:3 (720 x 576 effectieve pixels) worden ondersteund. Een 3de generatie LSI voor signaalverwerking garandeert een perfecte signaal/ruis-verhouding, met hoge gevoeligheid en lage vervorming.
Bioscoop ervaring
Filmachtige textuur, tinten en expressie zijn routine met het speciale Cine Look programma.
De regeling van de gammacurves is tevens mogelijk met knik-aanpassingen om witte vlakken te verzachten en met Black zijn details in delen met geringe helderheid te accentueren of te onderdrukken. Colour Matrix is te selecteren bij Video en Cinema, terwijl V Detail een flexibele resolutie in verticale richting mogelijk maakt. Met Skin Detail is controle over fase en chroma mogelijk voor zachtere, warme huidtinten. Een Film Grain instelling verhoogt de warmte en natuurlijke compressie van film. Handbediening is beschikbaar voor Master RGB, Setup niveau, Master Pedestal, Gain, Coring, Scherpte, Ruisreducties, Colour Gain en Tint.
Bediening
Twee gebruikerstoetsen roepen onmiddellijk elke geselecteerde handmatige instelling op binnen de 8 hoofdfuncties. Favoriete instellingen zijn op te slaan bij drie gebruikersprogramma's. Onafhankelijke bediening is beschikbaar voor R Gain, G Gain en B Gain. Witbalans is in te stellen op echt wit of handmatig aan te passen.
Objectief
De fluoriet en asferische elementen in het 20x zoomobjectief elimineren zowel chromatische als sferische aberraties. Een cirkelvormige iris zorgt voor fraaie vervaging van de achtergrond en ingebouwde ND (neutrale dichtheid) filters maken het mogelijk de iris volledig te openen wanneer weinig omgevingslicht beschikbaar is. Het XL systeem is compatibel met alle XL video-objectieven en via een optionele adapter met meer dan 60 Canon EF objectieven.
Stabiel
De optische beeldstabilisatie (OIS) elimineert ongewenste trillingen van de camera voordat het beeld de sensor bereikt. Het SuperRange OIS vergroot de mogelijkheden van het IS door het beeld te bestuderen nadat het door de sensor is ontvangen en onderdrukt lage frequentie bewegingen.
In sync
Zowel Rec Run als Free Run SMPTE tijdcodering wordt ondersteund. 2 ingebouwde XLR aansluitingen met duplex voeding en een BNC aansluiting voor een externe beeldschermaansluiting zijn beschikbaar voor gebruik. Een IEEE1394 aansluiting maakt het mogelijk de XL2 direct op een harde schijf aan te sluiten.
